Out of the Comfort Zone

Hi. I’m Amy. In the summer of 2016 I packed our belongings into storage, sold our two cars, rented out our house and moved to a foreign country where we did not speak the language, didn’t know anyone, had never even visited the city before.  We had very little possessions other than our luggage from the plane and 3 large boxes that I sent ahead of us.  Our 2 cats came, too. Living outside our comfort zone was the motto of our adventure.  We were away for 2 years but we’re back in our California house now.  In that time, we traveled abroad 11 times, by every means of transportation (including EVA Air’s Hello Kitty Jet!), and we discovered that the world is big and wide, yet the coincidences we stumbled across made it feel small and wonderful.

My Adventure Abroad

In 2 years we traveled all around Japan, from Hokkaido in the north, to Okinawa in the south.  We went to Malaysia, Bali, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, South Korea and Taiwan.  My sons also went to Italy, the Philippines and additional school trips to Malaysia, Vietnam and South Korea.  I planned all of our travel.  I learned a lot about traveling with a family, about booking travel for myself and others, and about the vast educational opportunities that traveling brings.  I want to encourage this passion for travel in others.  I want to plan amazing trips and learn about places in the world through other people’s eyes.

I’ve been a lot of places including Spain, Portugal, Italy, Russia, Egypt, Panama, Switzerland, England, Canada and Mexico. I’ve sailed on a chartered boat among the indigenous Kuna Indians in the super remote San Blas Islands of Panama. I’ve seen the industrious Panama Canal in action. I’ve climbed inside a pyramid in Egypt and my favorite museums of all time are the Hermitage and Prado. My favorite places in the US are San Francisco, Washington, DC and Newport Beach.

Why I Started Epic Away

I’ve started this travel business to share my knowledge gained from many years of travels near and far.  It is downright difficult and time consuming to consider every detail on your own when it comes to travel planning.  I’ve become an expert on traveling with pets.  Getting visas.  Finding off the beaten path adventure.  Traveling with kids.  Living locally in a foreign land.  Currency exchange and cash versus credit cards.  Flight delays and typhoons. Finding local transportation and getting around.

Contact me and I’ll book an amazing ocean cruise, river cruise, group, solo or family tour, custom tour, excursions, food delights tour and more.  After I get to know you I’ll spend a lot of time planning your epic dream vacation!

An epic adventure awaits! What’s on your bucket list? I’m waiting to hear from you.

Bucket List Dreams

My bucket list includes a pilgrimage to Spain’s Santiago de Compostela.  A hike through Princess Mononoke’s lush forests on Japan’s Yakushima Island.  Climbing around for fun in Zion National Park.  Times Square on New Year’s Eve.  Round the World Travel ticket. And I just checked off the Aurora Borealis in Iceland! Woohoo.
